Mortgage Brokers - The Number Of Mortgage Products Do Not Impress Your Clients
By Andrew Poletto
Almost every new Loan Officer, when they get in this business, says this phrase sooner or later: "my company is great, we have over 1000 different mortgage products to choose from."
I'm just a guilty for saying this as anyone. Heck, that was practically my calling card when I first started in the is business. I said that while sticking out my chest like Superman. I was it, I was the general mortgage public's knight in shining armor. I had soooooo many products to choose from, everyone would want to get a mortgage with me.
Well, I'm about to let out a little secret about this.....the general public DOESN'T CARE about how many products you have at your disposal. Yup, that's right, they don't give a hoot. Oh, don't get me wrong, that phrase is still cool to say and tell people, but don't think that phrase will win you business because it just won't.
A person looking for a Mortgage Broker does not base where he will get a mortgage on whether the Loan Officer has 5 or 5000 products available. They are looking for someone to get the job done at a fair and honest price. If you want to brag about all the lenders you have available, that's fine, go for it. What I'm saying is I wouldn't recommend any Loan Officer use that phrase for marketing purposes (unless he's in my market and we're competing with each other) because generally speaking, people don't like to hear bragging.
Let me ask you this, when was the last time you used that phrased and got business from it? Business other than someone you already knew? Please don't misunderstand, I'm not saying to not use that phrase. I'm saying to have someone else ready to get people to know and trust you, then they will get a mortgage from you. Get it?
