1. Know your worth by getting a pre approval. If you have pre approval it will lead to more negotiating power with the seller.



2. Decide on your requirement and browse the internet. Compare the price with others similar sized structures in the same locality.



3. Once you are happy with property, arrange for inspection with a professional and independent appraiser.



4. Appoint a solicitor to deal during the settlement process. He will take care of the legal requirements and documentation.



5. Shop for low interest rate and low fees mortgage. You have a lot of options. Look around for the best deals.



6. If you opt for a fixed rate mortgage, get it in writing the duration of fixed rate.



7. Work out the out of pocket cost before finalizing the mortgage. This will decide the amount of loan required.



8. If possible try to take 80% of the cost as loan. This will reduce the cost towards mortgage insurance.



9. Do not refinance the loan. The cost of refinancing is so high.



10. Make your mortgage payment on time every time. Try to make extra payment whenever you get extra cash.
